Visualization: The Credit Crisis

February 19, 2009

Jonathan Jarvis did a great job on his thesis at the Media Design Program, at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. He had have the goal of give form to a complex situation like the credit crisis is to quickly supply the essence of the situation to those unfamiliar and uninitiated. The illustration style and the way he transports the information is great. Simplicity.

Video: Mac vs PC

February 17, 2009

just found a funny nice video about a great fight between mac and PC… oh and I wouldn’t post it here, if there wasn’t any CG related stuff in it.

The video consists of real footage combined with CG elements of a mac-robot and a PC-robot fighting each other. The tracking seems a little bit of especially when the robots walk. Also the interaction between CG elements and real world objects isn’t perfect … but at the end simple mass will strike back

The guys from www.i3dtutorials.com offer a new free video tutorial about subsurface scattering and Mental Ray. The tutorial is produced in XSI but it should also be helpfull for other applications that use Mental Ray as render engine.
The tutorial is hosted @ www.3DM3.com. It is part of the i3D product Introduction to the Render Tree.

CG CHOICE AWARD – Statistic Overview

February 14, 2009

The collected Information from the former posts where combined into one overview chart. The chart shows the CG Choice Award Statistic for Automotive Pictures form the year 2002 – 2008 which where awarded in the CG CHoice Gallery: 3D.

The chart illustrates a clear trend for the rating of awarded pictures with an automotive background. There are less images with an automotive theme awarded each year for the CG Choice Award @ CGTalk.

It would be interesting to analyse the occurrence of other thematic pictures within the CG Choice Award Gallery. To really judge the shown results one should analyse the overall awarded images. It is also important to note that the awarded images are picked from the overall Showcase Gallery: 3D Stills at CGTalk. A coherence between posted 3D Stills and awarded 3D Stills would also be a very interesting evaluation.
