Ivy Generator by Thomas Luft

I’ve just stumbled across a little application that allows the creation and growing of ivy on virtual objects. The Ivy Generator is standalone and is released under GNU licence so its free for commercial and non-commercial work. A video tutorial for the application can be found at www.sharecg.com.


The application was published by Thomas Luft in the year 2007. The Author is a researcher within the graphics institute at the University of Konstanz. The professorship in turn at the graphics institute is hold by Prof. Oliver Deussen who is a co-founder of greenworks organic software. Greenworks is the company that has developed the commercial plant generator xfrog. Deussen itself started his science career at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg.

It’s really nice to see that research and commercial development meet each other. I’ve never was in the need to generate realistic plants while doing my visualization jobs but it could be helpfull in the future.
